This professional learning workshop will equip educators with the theory, research and practical strategies necessary to effectively implement an evidence-based systematic synthetic phonics program in F-2 Classrooms.

This workshop will provide educators with:

• Key theory and principles of the science of reading, cognitive load theory, explicit teaching and retrieval practice
• A Scope and Sequence for reading, writing and spelling
• Literacy block structure and practical and effective learning activities
• Key features of decodable books and how to use them
• Assessment- the why, when, what and how
• A teaching kit that includes samples of Sunshine Decodable Resources
