Sunshine Reading Road
Fully decodable texts for older students
Sunshine Reading Road is a new series of decodable titles aimed at older primary age students. Reading Road titles support older students to consolidate and master their phonics knowledge through reading engaging texts containing limited code.
Reading Road is also appropriate for all students who would like to reinforce their existing phonics knowledge with longer books and a larger word count. The relatable fiction titles include modern characters who will appeal to older students and the non-fiction titles provide easily accessible information about a range of interesting topics.
To read titles in Reading Road 1 and 2 students only need to be able to read simple code and complex code. Titles in Reading Road 3, 4 and 5 introduce some alternative spellings for the phonemes that students already know. See our Phonics overview for further details on the phonics focus of each Reading Road pack.
These titles which are age appropriate for children in the upper primary years provide practice, review and consolidation in reading, at a level they can read, and about topics that they will want to read about. Reading Road is an intervention series to give students, who may not believe that they can tackle books written for their age group, confidence in reading.
All books are available for sale in single or multipacks.

Testimonials
For over five years I have been involved with a reading program with high school students. Our volunteer tutors work one on one with students who need additional help with their reading and comprehension, in some cases with English as a second language.
We recently introduced Sunshine Reading Road 1 and 2 to the program. The tutors were so pleased with this series of books and the enthusiastic uptake by their students that we are introducing Reading Road 3, 4 and 5 to the sessions.
There is no doubt that the topical, up to date nature of the books (while concentrating on particular phonetics), plus the high quality illustrations throughout appeal to the younger generation. Given the wide range of interesting subjects covered in the series, there is generally a number of books that really appeal to any given student. The accompanying activity sheets provide an excellent follow up to further develop and test the students’ comprehension of the topic.
I fully recommend Sunshine Reading Road as an excellent addition to any learning program at this level.
